Tons and tons of stuff! Grab a shirt and help me promote!
Well, I think I saved the best for last!!
BBQ Fans! 312 E. US Highway 69, Claycomo, MO (816) 754-6774
I love this place! The price is right! Over the years that I have been barbecuing, I have noticed that the one thing that is holding me back was price. I finally found the place I will go to get that “thing” I need.
As I parked, I saw a Fast Eddy’s FEC100 CookShack sitting out front. I knew I was in the right place!
Walking in, I saw Barbeque Stuff! A lot of Barbeque Stuff! Some I had seen at other places, but this stuff costs less! I am like many of you–on a tight budget. For sure, I will buy HERE, I may even see about cooking here! (More on that later…) I talked with the staff for quite awhile about my Blog and about Competition. We talked about the cool BBQ stuff they have in their store. Overall, I found BBQ Fans THE place in the Kansas City area to shop for Barbeque stuff!
They sell grills, smokers and just about every accessory you could ever need! Can you believe this?: They also PERSONALIZE(!) lots of BBQ accessories for great gift ideas. It’s true! If you can’t find what you need in the store, they can find it and ship it to you!
I did buy a couple of items I couldn’t live without, but that’s a story for another post! I really hope you take this advice and go to the BBQ Fans store and check it out for yourself! I can’t wait to go back there to hang out and get some more BBQ tools!
So, after a great lunch, we drove on to Parkville Missouri. Another great place.
Backyard Bash! 6264 Lewis Street Ste 100 Parkville, MO 64152 (816) 587-9990.
First off, I really like the name! Second off, I REALLY like walking in the door and being greeted by a Good One Rodeo! I love that smoker/grill! (I would love it even more if one showed up at my door to test and keep forever!)
I walked and chased my daughter around the whole store. I tried to see everything in the store, but I don’t think it was possible! There is a lot of stuff there! Go and buy something! Seriously!
They have grills, smokers, just about every accessory, spices, and rubs you could ever need! They carry lots of parts too if you need to fix a grill. Backyard Bash! also has cooking classes once a month–so stop by and sign up. The classes only hold 20 people. The next class is in May–brisket and pork butt…can you say m-m-m-m-m?
The staff was pleasant–it was very nice to meet them!
We were heading to Parkville and, as we were about halfway there, I asked my wife if she was hungry (I knew the answer.) At the time we were in North Kansas City, MO–close to good BBQ!
I remembered seeing a little place on a Food Channel show–maybe you’ve watched it too, “Diners Drive-ins and Dives” with Guy Fieri.
The place is Smokin Guns BBQ & Catering, 1218 Swift Avenue Kansas City, MO 64116 (816) 221-2535.
As we sat and ate lunch, all I have to say is “I am impressed!” I ordered the Combo with Burnt ends, three Ribs, Baked Beans, and Potato Bake. First I took a bite of a not-so-burnt, Burnt end… Oh my!” This was one of the most tender, tasty chunks of beef I have had in a while! The ribs were really good, too. Their potato bake was AWESOME! The beans were good.
My wife had turkey on white bread and rings. I tried the turkey, it was moist and tasty. I will go back for that!
We both agreed the sauce was great! This was my wife’s most favorite sauce we’ve tried so far. I really didn’t taste much smoke, but I don’t think it needed any more either since it was SO good!
Only two little negatives…they need some light music in the background. It was very quiet in the restaurant. I almost felt like we should whisper to each other…I guess that would make it more romantic–but a little jazz or something light would have solved the problem. Second, I wish there was a little less salt in the rub–don’t get me wrong: I love salt…just a little, tiny bit less. I did notice the sauce takes away the seasoning salt taste.
Let me know when you’ve been there…the forum awaits you!
INSTEAD, I spent the day looking for Squeeze Tubes… I know it sounds weird, but I want to start a product line and would like to put my Hamburger mix in a squeeze tube! Any help? Any ideas? I found one that I could buy but I thought I would find 1,000’s! Let me know if you have any ideas or if you are a manufacturer that knows where I can look!
I highly recommend that you go to The Kansas City Barbecue Store if you need anything! They have tons of Sauces, Rubs, Accessories, Equipment, Smokers, Grill, and Parts. I talked with the staff for quite a while about smokers and cooking…a little about competition and a little of this and that. The prices seemed to be right on–in fact, a little lower than I expected!
So it seems this trip was a good idea!
I picked up a product to test out this upcoming weekend for some Pulled Pork! I will just keep you in the dark about what I got until I am ready! I’m looking forward to including it (and more) since I need content for the site!
The Store sits right next door to Oklahoma Joe’s, so GET some food and pick up some stuff to MAKE some food!
Where am I going tomorrow?
Well it’s snowing outside… (at least it is as I write this!)
So onward and upward we go! Let’s see, I think I am going to run out to The BBQ Store tomorrow and take a look around! and maybe find some place to eat some Que on the way home! Not much else to report. I’m firming up those plans to get some How-to Videos done this week!
What would you like to see? I really want to make some pulled pork!
We have added new stuff!!
Let’s talk! We have added a forum!

We have big plans this upcoming week. The Barbecue Kansas City crew (my wife and kids…maybe the neighbor kid) are going out and about! Great barbeque is on tap for the week! I will be running around town to those “I haven’t heard of that place” places! and I will be bringing the information back to you!
Join us at the end of the week (Friday). We will be hanging out at the Smokin’ on Big Creek STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in Pleasant Hill, MO. Starts: 04/01/2011 Ends: 04/02/2011
KCBS Reps: PHIL MORROW, CLARA WILLIAMS, JONATHAN B WILLIAMS
We will be going to some of the equipment places around town…like where to get your next backyard smoker or maybe even your next competition smoker! The “where to find the stuff you need” places!
The how-to series is going to go in to full swing. I will start at the beginning with “how-to use a charcoal chimney”! SO: follow BarbequeKansasCity on YouTube! I may even get back to work on my competition smoker!
I think I am going to take the how-to one step further by offering “smoking that meat” classes! Are you just starting out and want to learn how-to smoke meat one-on-one, or with a couple of people? Small classes=small $20 fee… just to cover costs. I will answer all your questions to the best of my ability…and if you really stump me, I’ll find you the answers!
Twitter: I will do as many “where we are at” updates as I can handle! Follow @BarbequeKC
Youtube: Tune in to BarbequeKansasCity for helpful how to videos!

Who’s in? Let’s hang out!
I’ve been thinking that my wife and I may become Certified Kansas City Barbeque Society Judges for this season. From what I have been told (by a multitude of people!), you should become a judge before you become involved in competition. So you should become a Certified Kansas City Barbeque Society Judge…
Step 1 Go to Kansas City Barbeque Society Website and sign up to be a member.
Step 2 Find a judges class at Certified Kansas City Barbeque Society Judges Classes Web Page. Click the class you want to sign up for and contact the person in charge of the class to make sure there is room for you!
Step 3 Go to the class and taste good Barbeque! and learn something…
