Barbeque Kansas City! It’s our live week! Stop two of three!

So, after a great lunch, we drove on to Parkville Missouri.   Another great place.

Backyard Bash! 6264 Lewis Street Ste 100 Parkville, MO 64152 (816) 587-9990.

First off, I really like the name! Second off, I REALLY like walking in the door and being greeted by a Good One Rodeo!  I love that smoker/grill!   (I would love it even more if one showed up at my door to test and keep forever!)

I walked and chased my daughter around the whole store. I tried to see everything in the store, but I don’t think it was possible! There is a lot of stuff there! Go and buy something! Seriously!

They have grills, smokers, just about every accessory, spices, and rubs you could ever need! They carry lots of parts too if you need to fix a grill. Backyard Bash! also has cooking classes once a month–so stop by and sign up. The classes only hold 20 people. The next class is in May–brisket and pork butt…can you say m-m-m-m-m?

The staff was pleasant–it was very nice to meet them!

Barbeque Kansas City! We made it out and about–and met some GREAT people!

We were heading to Parkville and, as we were about halfway there, I asked my wife if she was hungry (I knew the answer.) At the time we were in North Kansas City, MO–close to good BBQ!

I remembered seeing a little place on a Food Channel show–maybe you’ve watched it too, “Diners Drive-ins and Dives” with Guy Fieri.

The place is Smokin Guns BBQ & Catering, 1218 Swift Avenue Kansas City, MO 64116 (816) 221-2535.

As we sat and ate lunch, all I have to say is “I am impressed!”  I ordered the Combo with Burnt ends, three Ribs, Baked Beans, and Potato Bake.  First I took a bite of a not-so-burnt, Burnt end… Oh my!”  This was one of the most tender, tasty chunks of beef I have had in a while! The ribs were really good, too. Their potato bake was AWESOME! The beans were good.

My wife had turkey on white bread and rings. I tried the turkey, it was moist and tasty. I will go back for that!

We both agreed the sauce was great! This was my wife’s most favorite sauce we’ve tried so far.  I really didn’t taste much smoke, but I don’t think it  needed any more either since it was SO good!

Only two little negatives…they need some light music in the background.  It was very quiet in the restaurant.  I almost felt like we should whisper to each other…I guess that would make it more romantic–but a little jazz or something light would have solved the problem.  Second, I wish there was a little less salt in the rub–don’t get me wrong:  I love salt…just a little, tiny bit less. I did notice the sauce takes away the seasoning salt taste.

Let me know when you’ve been there…the forum awaits you!

Barbeque Kansas City. I didn’t make it out and about…

INSTEAD,  I spent the day looking for Squeeze Tubes…   I know it sounds weird, but I want to start a product line and would like to put my Hamburger mix in a squeeze tube!  Any help?  Any ideas?  I found one that I could buy but I thought I would find 1,000’s!  Let me know if you have any ideas or if you are a manufacturer that knows where I can look!

Barbeque Kansas City live! Headed out! To The Kansas City BBQ Store!

The Kansas City BBQ Store 11946 South Strang Line Road Olathe, KS 66062 (913) 782-5171

I highly recommend that you go to The Kansas City Barbecue Store if you need anything! They have tons of Sauces, Rubs, Accessories, Equipment, Smokers, Grill, and Parts. I talked with the staff for quite a while about smokers and cooking…a little about competition and a little of this and that. The prices seemed to be right on–in fact, a little lower than I expected!

So it seems this trip was a good idea!

I picked up a product to test out this upcoming weekend for some Pulled Pork! I will just keep you in the dark about what I got until I am ready! I’m looking forward to including it (and more) since I need content for the site!

The Store sits right next door to Oklahoma Joe’s, so GET some food and pick up some stuff to MAKE some food!

Where am I going  tomorrow?

I will be running around town to those “I haven’t heard of that place” places! and I will be bringing the information back to you!

We will be going to some of the equipment places around town…like where to get your next backyard smoker or maybe even your next competition smoker!  The “where to find the stuff you need” places!

The how-to series is going to go in to full swing. I will start at the beginning with “how-to use a charcoal chimney”!  SO:  follow BarbequeKansasCity on YouTube! I may even get back to work on my competition smoker!

I think I am going to take the how-to one step further by offering “smoking that meat” classes! Are you just starting out and want to learn how-to smoke meat one-on-one, or with a couple of people? Small classes=small $20 fee… just to cover costs. I will answer all your questions to the best of my ability…and if you really stump me, I’ll find you the answers!

Barbeque Kansas City News! Do you want to be a KCBS Judge?

I’ve been thinking that my wife and I may become Certified Kansas City Barbeque Society Judges for this season. From what I have been told (by a multitude of people!), you should  become a judge before you become involved in competition. So you should become a Certified Kansas City Barbeque Society Judge…

Step 1 Go to Kansas City Barbeque Society Website and sign up to be a member.

Step 2 Find a judges class at Certified Kansas City Barbeque Society Judges Classes Web Page.  Click the class you want to sign up for and contact the person in charge of the class to make sure there is room for you!

Step 3 Go to the class and taste good Barbeque! and learn something…

Barbeque Kansas City News! Would you like $400,000?

Sam’s Club® and Kansas City Barbeque Society Announce Richest Barbecue Series in History

BENTONVILLE, Ark., March 16, 2011 – Sam’s Club, the official supplier of the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS), announced today the largest prize purse – a total of $400,000 – and competition series in the history of competitive barbecue.

The tour, called the Inaugural Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour, will feature 20 local qualifying events, five regional events and one national championship in the company’s hometown of Bentonville, Ark. An unprecedented total of $400,000 will be awarded in 26 barbecue competitions, which will be held in Sam’s Club parking lots across the country.

“This partnership with KCBS gives Sam’s Club a chance to showcase our high-quality selection of fresh meats,” said Bob Fields, senior fresh merchandise director, Sam’s Club. “It also allows us the opportunity to demonstrate to our members and others how grilling can be an everyday meal solution even if they aren’t part of the growing competitive barbecuing scene.”

The teams compete at local events for the opportunity to advance to regional competitions. Qualifying teams from the regional events will then move on to the national event, where one lucky team will be crowned grand champion and take home their portion of the $400,000 purse.

KCBS will sanction the events and provide certified barbecue judges for the competitions.

“Over our 25 year history, we have seen substantial growth in members, events and prize money,” said Carolyn Wells, executive director, KCBS. “This is due in large part to the ever growing popularity of our sport. Our strategic alliance with Sam’s Club is another way for us to continue bringing barbecue to the masses.”

As the sanctioning body of competitive barbecue, KCBS sanctions more than 350 competitions each year. With a membership of more than 14,000 individuals and 5,000 competitive barbecue teams, KCBS is the largest barbecue society in the world.

The national tour will kick off in Gilbert, Ariz. on April 8, 2011. The events will also feature sampling and public demonstrations, along with exclusive barbecue tips and demonstrations from professional cooks, including Troy Black, a successful professional barbecue cook on the KCBS circuit. Black is also the author of the book “The Big Book of BBQ,” which was published in 2010.

“This is a great way for our members to come out and learn how to make competition barbecue in their own backyards,” Fields said. “Who better to learn from than the professional cooks and teams who have dedicated their lives to perfecting their craft?”

Ochocinco Likes Kansas City and Barbeque!

Chad Ochocinco visited Kansas City to try out for our soccer team SportingKC earlier. In a brief interview he said that he got the chance to eat some (http://www.oklahomajoesbbq.com) Oklahoma Joe’s Barbeque.  He sounded like he liked it!

I couldn’t get a copy of the video, so here’s a link Ochocinco Talks About KC Visit, & BBQ Before Tryout!

I just looked at the awards page from Oklahoma Joe’s page.  Take a look! He has done his homework!
